Need Help with a rattle
I been noticing that my rattle is coming from somewhere in the steering wheel. I don't know if it's the steering wheel column or something behind the steering wheel. If anyone has encountered this problem or knows what causes it please chime in. It's driving me crazy.
Thanks

I had this problem on my LT 2006.
The culprit - steering rack.
diagnostic:
1. raise the car's muzzle above the floor (the wheels do not touch the floor);
2. Sit in the car, shut the door and turn off the radio. Do the motion the steering wheel - left / right. Do not turn the steering wheel - just a mild deviation from the central position, no more than an inch.
If you hear a knock - steering rack with a high probability.
My car had a steering rack with adjustable parameters.
adjusting bolt at this point

But a lot of steering racks of another type, without the possibility of adjusting the parameters. Inspect your part.

I have a 2010 LT with 20K miles. At about 14K miles I had a rattle in the steering column area, evident most at really slow speeds (like driving in a parking lot). I finally took it into the dealership and they diagnosed it as a bad steering column and replaced it under warranty. I also have a 2006 LT and suspect it may have the same issue (have replaced struts, bushings and shocks). BTW, the dealership told me the replacement steering columns are better than the OEM. Guess I will find out!
Had an annoying buzzing rattle on non-smooth roads.
Turned out to be a metal panel under the steering column under the dash. The sheet metal screws were just enough loose that rough roads would shake the panel around and it acted like a nice snare drum.
Mucho thanks to the tech at Carr Chevy for sticking with it to find the thing!
