New car comes with black grit and swirl
I took home a new HHR 2LT Imperial Blue last week. Of course, the dealer had already put swirl on it - massive swirls - but I didn't let that bother me. But I felt little snags on the roof so had it clay barred and waxed for $100. They showed me the clay bar afterward, and it was covered with fine black grit. I asked my dealer about the rail dust issue while I was buying it, and he'd never heard of it. It's a shame dealers can't properly prep a new car like this. Instead they have kids scratch the heck out of the clear coat so that you never really get to take possession of a mint vehicle.
Oh, did I mention the passenger seat had a, lumpy hard cushion? A defect no one at the dealership had ever seen before. A new seat bottom is on order.

Welcome and enjoy your new ride. Unfortunately, the dealerships are about quick clean-ups only. The Cadillac dealer across from my office doesn't even hand-wash cars anymore ... they have an automated car wash in back, complete with harsh chemicals to strip dirt and those awful spinning ::cough:: soft cloth ::cough:: cleaners. I think I'd be pissed to spend that much money on a new Caddy and have it run through a car wash before I had a chance to say anything about it.
to the Forum!! Sorry 'bout your dealer's lack of care--but it's very common.. It's just "another car" to most of them--head 'em up & move 'em out... I became a bit of a pest before my car came in--they knew me well by then and I'm certain the "word" was out that I would be a pita if they screwed anything up.. They, fortunately, did a great job prepping mine..Enjoy the ride & the site!!
