New door handle repair?

Stopped by my buddy's new repair shop to say hi and have him check some things out. Problems with the HHR? Can't be. He looked at my interior door handle that broke. He pulls out this 2 part epoxy called Plastic Welder. It's made by Versa Chem. He got it at Napa but I'm sure available elsewhere. The best part of this repair is, since he noticed the broken parts were touching, he just pulled the handle, applied the epoxy where it broke and released the handle back to it's normal position. Package says it bonds in 15 mins. 3500 psi strength. I waited 4 hours before testing. 30 pulls later and works great. No need to pull door cards. Just another option.

Good fix.

You might want to consider checking the other door handles for cracking, and maybe move the repaired one to a lesser used door (I moved my repaired drivers door handle to the rear door - just swapped them front to rear).

Sounds exactly like the JBWeld fix in the How-To section?

I found it using the SEARCH box.

DON: The JB Weld posts I saw, they pulled the handle off and repaired it. This repair, the handle was left on the car. I may have missed that post you speak of. Thanks WHOPPER: That would require too much work. As I get older,I get more lazy. Will check back later whether it holds or breaks.

The place that they usually break is the part inside the door.

The post I speak of is the thread linked in the post I made above.

I don't ever use the handle for anything but un latching the door 20-30 times every day. Never broke one in 7 years, I am proud to say. Both cars were rentals before I got them.

I guess I'm lucky.

That was the thread I saw also. The reason I posted was to let others know that they may not have to disassemble door to fix handle. Just another option with a lot less work. Only time will tell if lasts.

Bummer! Thought there might be a new door handle fix. The bond broke this morning after 9 days. Well it was worth a shot. Now to repair or replace, that is the question.
