New Owners Nightmare

I've been keeping up with the discussions here and have considered many opinions and testaments detailed here while contemplating purchasing a new HHR.

Well the 0% promotion put me over the edge and I drove my 2LT Orange home Saturday, July 1st. It's got everything except the Onstar and bumper pad.

This afternoon driving home from Ft. Worth the odometer hit 725 miles and at that instant a '93 Olds hit my rear bumper. The estimate is $707.56, not too bad but the guy was uninsured. My only fear is that the new bodywork paint may be slightly off. I sure hope not...

I had hoped my first post would be a joyful proclamation of a new owner, but unfortunately for me I didn't have time to register or post before getting bent out of shape, so to speak. I'll keep ya'll updated on the repairs.

Man, that really "sucks"...

Sorry to hear about that and wish you "good thoughts" on the repair.

DOH!

Sorry to hear about your accident.

You have to HATE uninsured drivers...hopefully you took that information to your insurance company. This happened to me a while back with my old car. My insurance company basically said I had to pay a $200 "non-insured" deductible, and they would go after the driver of the other car to get retribution, AND the first $200 they collected would be sent to me to pay off the deductible.
Luckily for me it all worked out in the end.

Unless it's a very mindor dent they are more than likely going to order a new bumper cover and it should come from GM pre-painted. (I'm hoping it was just the bumper.)

First off to the forum, to bad your first post wasn't on a happier note.

If the works done at a good bodyshop I'm sure it will be fine, report back when you find out more.

BTW, don't you guys still hang people in Texas, sounds like the person that hit you might be a good candidate.

That really is a major bummer !! We got a couple of dings on ours within 3 or 4 weeks of getting ours and I know how ticked off I was/am!! So I can imagine how you must feel about getting rammed by some uninsured boob. Sorry things have started out like this for you.

It all depends on the body shop. If they are good with the paint you should be fine. If its just the bumper you should be allright. Has the frame been look at and the exaust to make sure everything benath is intack. Plus I would also check out the rear wheels to make sure everything is balanced.

Welcome, Sorry about your accident. The dealer should not have a problem with the paint match and could have been worse. Try to enjoy the ride even though it has been little damaged. I had a simular thing happen to me one time. except it was my next door neighbor ran into the back of my brand new Saturn Vue while following me too close.

The local Chevy body shop does great work. About 2 months ago we got our first door ding in our '04 Silverado Crew, we always park way, way out at Wal-mart, and they did an awesome job on paint matching and body filling. They also replaced the front end of my '00 Monte Carlo SS a couple of years ago, the other guy was making an illegal left across traffic...go figure, I can't even tell there was any damage on the pickup. I'm sure they'll do their best to match the Orange. They did mention that my insurance will require an examination of the foam energy absorbing pad and the sub-structure...so I think the new ride is in good hands. Anyhow GM guarantees the workmanship, and PPG guarentees the paint.

to chevyhhr.net...the best HHR forum on the internet.

Sorry to hear that your first post here had to be telling us about some uninsured dipstick rear ending your new car...that definitely is the pits.

I got a small dent in the hood of my Orange HHR after I had it a couple months and they had to repaint, restripe and clear coat the hood and the paint matched perfectly. I took it to a Chevrolet dealer, which cost me a little more than a couple of the very good body shops in town, but to me it was worth it...since it's a brand new car. I'm sure since you have worked with these folks before and have been pleased with their work, everything will be just fine. Sounds like you're in very capable hands.

BTW...I was in the insurance business for about 15 years and they will take care of you just like jayras stated. You'll be out your deductible for a bit, but at least your car will be repaired. I don't know what the laws are in your state, but you might check with your Motor Vehicle Department. Here in Colorado, we are required to file a report with them for every accident and if it is shown that you do not have insurance, your license is revoked and stays that way until you file an SR22. If you don't know anything about this, please let me know and I'll search for the information for you.
