Odd rpm transmission issue?

It sounds like a wheel bearing. To verify, a quick test is to lift the wheels off the ground, put the transmission in neutral. With one hand on the coil spring, spin the wheel with the other. The side that you can feel vibrations in the spring, is the one with the issue.

i dont know much about the tranny in the HHR but maybe it has something to do with not having "drive by wire". older cars have a wire attatched to the gas pedal and you manually move the throttle. newer cars and the HHR, it is all electronic

Michelle and Spozo - thanks for this but I have no way to do this test. I am dreading another visit to the service dept with my HHR.

Michelle - The front wheel bearings need replacement. I found hub assembly parts on line for 1/3 what the repair shop quoted me. Now I need to get them installed.
