Oil Leak

2008 HHR 2.2L 54K
I discovered a few drops of oil on the driveway. I thought it was coming from the oil filter cap, so I replaced the O-ring. Next day still new drops appeared. I cranked the car up and noticed a little pin hole on the oil filter cap, so I replaced the oil filter cap with another used one that I had in the garage off of a 2.4L. I inspected it's O-ring and it looked good and pliable. I took a paper towel and wiped all the excess oil off the top of the engine. So I figured the oil leak is now fixed. I drive to work, 15min on the interstate and when I get to work I pop the hood and discover oil on top of the engine again. Any ideas of known oil leak spots up here?

I am at work and can not go out and look at it. It is driving me crazy.

A brand new cap is only about $5, last I looked. They used to be available "everywhere car parts are sold". Oil pressure sender is under there.

The funnel like oil filler tube was a leaker on mine! I forgot I just removed it, and just use the cap.

The leak is not coming from the valve cover or the funnel oil fill neck. It is impossible to see the oil sending unit, but I snapped a picture.

I cleaned everything up real good and I am off to work.

Based on your picture, I would say it's not the oil sending unit that's leaking.

Finally got some daylight time to further investigate and could not find the source of the leak. So I retightened the oil fillter cap, it turned maybe 20°. It is now extremely tight, especially for something with an o-ring in it. I used engine degreaser and cleaned EVERYTHING. Engine looks like new. Drove it a couple days and no leak, must have been seeping from the second oil filter cap.

Was driving to work today and smelled burning oil. I immediately pulled over and killed the engine, there was about a quart of oil puddling up on the ground below my engine. Popped the hood and the top of the engine is covered with oil. I have no idea where it is coming from (maybe around the oil filter cap or that hose that goes into the intake, just above the oil filter cap). I checked the dipstick and it was bone dry. Did not hear knocking when I killed the engine, so maybe I am ok. Called the wife and she towed me back home with her HRR SS. I'll put some oil in it tomorrow and see where the leak is.
