Check the cap and take it off. When you do the oil filter change you have to change the o ring that comes with it. They might of not replace it or forgot to even out it on. Or like you said they put the cap on wrong or may of not seated it properly. I changed my own filter and oil and times when i put the oil filter cap back on seems tight but then keep wreching it down finally seated.

When I used to change my own oil and filter, I used a torque wrench and tightened the cap to the recommended spec.

I doubt the o-ring has been changed since the vehicle came out of the factory.
It's definitely due for a new one.

Right. Everytime you buy a oil filter in the box will have a oring in there. You have to change iteverytime. Make sure the oring is in the grove at bottom of oil filter cap. Oring should be smooth around. Not rolled or twisted or on the threads of the cap.

A quick follow-up.

Took it to the dealership for an overpriced oil change and inspection of the oil filter cartridge cap and o-ring.

The technician said the cap was not on as tight as it should have been when he went to remove it.

He shampooed that area of the engine so I can monitor it to see if it happens again.

Have you cleaned it relly good so you can tell if oil is actually coming from that crack? There appears to be some oil above that point. Frequent sources are the cap and dripping filter.

Welcome to the site Ernie, can you snap a picture a little farther back now so we can see a little more of that area.

This engine doesn’t have the oil cooler, it appears your engine leak is behind the brake booster hose

Does your engine have the oil cooler?

@Oldblue

I have sold my 2006 2.4 HHR & I now have a 2014 2.5 Caddy ATS. Basically the same motor, but much needed upgrades. I think you almost have this problem solved. NO ONE has told you weather or NOT they have the OIL COOLER on there car. Look back at my old thread about the oil cooler and maybe it will help.

Congrats on your new ride, my 2.2 2007 doesn’t have the oil cooler or the small crack /leak, so if they don’t respond to my questions, it really doesn’t effect me, just hurts my feelings a little, naw, just keeping kidding!!
