P0455 EVAP Gross Leak
P0455 EVAP Gross Leak
2006 HHR LT 2.4 Auto 130K
P0455 code, no other codes. YES - I USED THE SEARCH FUNCTION. I am past the information available in the other threads.
Replaced:
-Fuel cap (twice). Once bargain basement, and again with OEM.
-Fuel lines (had the common rust issue)
-Canister Vent Valve
-Purge Solenoid (on engine)
All nylon lines and connectors look to be in good shape. I thoroughly inspected them upon replacing the fuel/evap lines.
Could the Canister have some sort of internal failure? There's no cracking or damage on the outside, and that's an expensive part I don't want to just throw at it.

Thanks for the suggestions sofar.
Fuel neck: looks good from under the vehicle, however I guess I can't rule out a crack on the top of the assembly out of view. Since replacing the fuel lines I do not smell fuel anytime other than pumping gas.
-purge solenoid: I had a separate code for that which is why it was replaced. That code has not returned since. It is about 1 year old at this point.
Looking like I'm going to have to smoke it one way or another.

I had a purge solenoid go south at just 3 months old it was a from Amazon, turned out it was a counterfeit piece from China, I could blow air right thru it, I installed a real AC Delco part no more code, so just to be sure test it!
The grommet/seal on the vent valve is a common failure, especially after replacing the valve.
One member found that the guy that replaced his fuel pump had forgotten to fasten the cover , so the top of the tank was open to the atmosphere.

Any update from the original poster? I started with the 442 small leak and have graduated to the 455 large leak. I have also replaced all the items listed above (and rechecked my new purge solenoid) except for the canister vent valve, but I did also replace the vent line that runs next to the rusty fuel line. Is there a way to check the vent valve or is it just as easy to replace it? Also, if its a leak in the metal fuel fill pipe, wouldn't that show as a gas cap leak? This has been on and off for 2 years now. I'm close to 140k miles now in case that is relevant.
Thanks for the quick responses guys. I'll replace the vent valve and cross my fingers. rfruman, please let us know what your smoke test reveals when you get to it. I'm hoping to get mine squared away (again) before the next smog check in July. Have a Happy St. Patty's Day!
