Thanks, not enough coffee yet!
Moot point because apparently it’s not returned.

I installed the new AC Delco EVAP purge valve , I tested it for vacuum and pressure, both were zero on my gauge.

The vacuum comes from the intake manifold, it sucks fumes from the tank.

I know but when the valve is off the vehicle in your hand it’s supposed to be closed no air should pass through it either by vacuum from the engine side or pressure from the other side.

if there is air passing through it the computer reads an air leak when you start the car, if the intake can vacuum air through it.

Ok, so I drove the HHR today , startup was crisp and quick , idle was smooth with no surging. I drove to gas station 12 miles away , fueled up then clicked the gas cap 3 clicks, start up was instant no bogging or sputtering.
I drove to Niagara Falls then to Fort Erie, shifts were smooth , no stumble at 40 mph, no sudden down shifts when lifting the throttle pedal.
When stopping for traffic lights , smooth idle and down shifts , no stumbling when applying the brakes.
I attribute these improvements to the EVAP purge valve, it is sealed and not leaking air and fuel vapours into the intake manifold or unmetered air flow. I also noticed the clicking noise was gone it sounded similar to a timing chain tensioner gone bad.

PWM; the valve cycles rapidly to achieve a % duty cycle.

But if it can’t close then it shows as a leak in the system
