p0496 Error Code Changed Number of Parts

Hello. I done some good research but maybe I'm missing something. I've had the evap code for a small leak and now it moved on to a p0496. I've changed both the Purge Valve Solenoid and the Canister Purge Valve (the one next to the engine and the one under the car near the gas tank). I've also replaced the gas cap as well (made sure I got an OEM gas cap). Anyone tried anything else with this and seem to have fixed their problem? I have my own scanner and it seems to come back after the code has been cleared every 4-5 days. Thanks!

The gasket between the canister and the valve sometimes leaks or goes missing. Could be a hole in some of the piping. Could be the canister has failed.

What was this code and what did you do to fix it?

It says in your profile that you have a 2006. I realize that Tucson Az. is not exactly in the rust belt but I wonder if your fuel line and the return may be rusted.

I had the small evap leak code for almost two years on and off, I too replaced both the evap canister and the one under the hood as well as the gas cap.

The CEL and code would come and go. Finally the fuel line started to actually leak. Sometimes especially on very warm days I had gotten a fairly strong gasoline smell but figured it was simply from the expansion from the heat.

You can search on how I fixed it with fuel injection rated rubber hose if you like.

@Grizzly old man - Actually this car has been in South Dakota until the past few months so rust/the fuel line may be a factor. Good thought! I'll try your technique out.

@RJ_RS_SS_350 I believe it was p0442. That code kinda went away as I messed around with that canister under the car. I actually had an cylinder #2 misfire as well. But those went away now.

@donbrew I talked to a parts gentleman today and he mentioned that gasket as well. He mentioned can't do much with that.

Looks like I have a few more ideas to try out now. Thanks!
