Poor Paint

I have a black one with 8000 miles on it. I I do have one chip on the front fender, but it was there when I got the car and due to its location it is more than likely due to someone working under the hood.
I do however want to toss in my two cents here. I would think a poor quality paint could have the ability to chip easier than a high quality paint. It would interesting to know if GM uses the same paint on all vehicles, or if their higher end units get a higher quality paint?

It has nothing to do with GM using cheap or poor quality paint. It is because the new water based paints aren't as strong as the older paints used on cars that you are used to. Like tomdent1 pointed out soon ALL auto manufacturers will be using 100% water based paints on all vehicles due to federal regulations. There will be no way to avoid it no matter what manufacturer or vehicle you choose. You can't compare durability of modern paints to those of the past. It's something you'll have to learn to live with if you plan on buying new cars.
That may be the case. However GM has been using water based paint to some extent since the 80's where they did do repaint jobs because of problems. Auto manufacturers have known in advance what Federal Regulations would mandate and should have done and be doing R&D to provide a quality product while meeting such expectations. I hope you are not trying to say we are just suppose to accept an inferior product. Automotive competition is abound and they know all to well that consumers expect a durable product.

I was driving to work this morning, and they were repairing potholes on the road with tar and gravel...well, needless to say, the car in front of me threw at least 20 rocks at my ride while I was flying along, and I noticed a couple of chips in the hood. They are minor chips, and hey, things happen.
I don't feel this is a paint problem, it is a problem with the debris on our roads. I am sure I could have been driving a Bentley and still had a chip on my hood, this is not something I can blame on the paint.

You know denial is just a river in Egypt... Sounds like a lot of blame with hopes of a windfall to me. I suggest a bra as a remedy and the reply is "Why should I spend my money on additional products".
We`re driving a $20,000 veh. people...
If you don`t want another GM product, trade in, before the paint is really chipped up.
As l said, our roads are littered with debris, and not just feathers...
