Possible Transmission issue?

So I just went to denver on my honeymoon from kansas city and put about 2k round trip on my hhr and there have been a couple things I have noticed that don't seem right, Now I am basing my thoughts off the torque my supercharged grand prix but the things I have noticed still just don't seem to be right.

1. Going uphill not matter how big while using the cruise the car could no longer maintain speed and once it went below the initial cruise setting the car would have the go full throttle and go past the cruise setting. This would happen up to THREE times going up hill. Bothered my quite a bit. I know the torque from the 2.2 is no comparison to my sc 3.8 but its really annoying when the car go's full throttle like there is no overdrive.

2. With cruise control on if I hit the plus button to increase speed on the steering wheel it almost does nothing and 3 seconds later same thing happens when it goes full throttle.

3. driving up the mountain is very similar except the hills were alot more steeper, The problem I seemed to have come across there was when I let of the gas the car didn't seem to want to down shift. meaning it acted like it was in the lower gear all the time, I would get past the hill and for a little bit there it was still running 5k rpm. Just didn't seem right,

4. added this after forgetting. There seems to be a slight shudder going down hill on ocassions as if the car is shifting. I havent quite figured this one out.

Am I going crazy here or could this be a sign of a problem.

Just me but I don't think cruise control was ever intended for up and down driving. It doeas what its supposed to but isn't really much better than lashing a rope to a boats rudder and taking a nap.

True but is it really necessary to be full throttle. I mean if it has enough power to go faster up hill would there be a middle gear to just maintain speed uphill. Thats what boggles my mind. Why can it not maintain speed? I must say the throttle bywire is complete crap on these cars.
