Possibly the rotors?

Yes, again a rotor question...Please don't hate me, I'm new. I just bought a used 07 HHR LT 2.4. It had 30k miles on it. I've been reading through the forum. I had it for a day and the check engine light came on and the remote start wasn't working. Took it back to the dealership 3 days later and turned out to be bad injectors. They had the car for a week and a half because they had to do a nationwide search to find the injectors (this is what they told me). I have "owned" the car for about a month, but have actually only driven it for 2.5 weeks. I noticed the day after I got it back, when I went to stop there was a slight vibration in the steering wheel. It did it several times that day. My boyfriend drove it a few days later and he mentioned something about a vibration when he was braking. Could this be the starting of the rotors warping, or just a random thing maybe due to the road? I just started a new job and I commute 110 miles to and from work a day and have only noticed the vibration that one time. Should I take it in to the dealership now to have it checked? Would it be covered under warranty? I still have the factory warranty and I also purchased an extended comprehensive warranty.
Thanks!

I'm sure if you been reading up here that you already know the remote start will not work when CEL is lit. I had mine in about 2 months ago for the same reason (to get new injectors), but Dory was in and out in the same day. I would definatley take it in to have the rotors looked at, as that sounds like it is probably the case here.

Factory warranty should cover rotor resurfacing; the extended warranty won't. With 30K, it may be worth replacing the brakes with aftermarket instead of messing with the dealer.

Brakes

Here is the newest bulletin on rotors. Note this is for "measureable" difference in wear on the inner and outer brake pads. The fix is covered under the 3/36 warranty and includes adding a splash shield, replacing the pads and resurfacing the rotors.

#08-05-23-003: Front Brake Noise, Brake Pulsation, Front Brake Inner Pad Wear (Replace Front Brake Pads and Add Splash Shields) - (Mar 20, 2008)

Subject: Front Brake Noise, Brake Pulsation, Front Brake Inner Pad Wear (Replace Front Brake Pads and Add Splash Shields)

Models: 2006-2008 Chevrolet HHR

Condition
Some customers may comment on a brake noise and/or pulsation on brake apply. This condition can be more frequent if the customer resides or travels on dirt/gravel roads and usually occurs within 11,300 km (7,000 mi) to 16,000 km (10,000 mi) intervals.

Upon investigation, the technician may find that there is considerable difference between the front brake outer and inner pad thickness.

Cause
This condition may be due dust, dirt, and debris intruding between the inner brake pad and rotor.

Correction
Road test the vehicle and confirm that the brake noise and/or pulsation is coming from the front brakes. If it is determined that the noise is coming from the front brakes and there is a measurable difference between the outer and inner pad thickness, remove the front wheel bearing/hub assembly following published SI procedures, remove the bearing/hub-to-steering knuckle spacer and replace the spacer with a splash shield on each side.

Replace the front brake pads and follow the procedures outlined in Service Bulletin 00-05-22-002J for servicing the disc brake rotors.

Parts:
25774778 Shield, Front Brake (Right) 1
25884779 Shield, Front Brake (Left) 1

ChevyMgr,

Thanks for the new info! If my brakes get warped again, I will make sure to bring this to the attention of my dealer.

I just had the brake pads replaced and the splash guards put on today. I have 17,700 miles on mine. The steering wheel was vibrating when braking down hills. This was the second time it happened. The first was at abt 1,800 miles but the rotors where just resurfaced a tad.

Joining the party....

Just moved from Iowa to Washington, now driving in hills. Yep, Iowa is flat... Getting that really bad shimmy, shake & rattle when brakes applied on the downhill, so will try the local dealer in Vancouver. X my fingers!
