Power steering just went off!
Power steering just went off!
Hello everybody,
We left our '07 HHR LT in a paint shop and they jumped it because they left the lights on and when I went to pickup it was without the power steering. They will be responsable but don't have a mechanic there and I need the car. I read here in the forum that I need to replace the 60 amps #1 fuse and I already did it but it's still without power steering. Everything else works perfect. Could somebody to help to fix my problem.
Thanks in advance.

Everything else works, the engine runs and you can drive around with the lights and radio working? If so I would not expect more fuses to be blown, but check them anyway.
There are many threads regarding this common problem with jumpering, but I don’t recall their outcome. Do a search; yeah I know I hate it when somebody tells me that.
The only test I could suggest is to see if you have battery voltage on the red wire attached to the fuse box just to the left of that 60 Amp fuse. If not, you still have fuse box problems. And the power steering will never work without power to that wire. If there is power to that wire then I fear your problems are the power steering itself.
Something that lots of people try is to disconnect the battery for a while and reconnect - something about the computers being reset.
Good luck. More people will be on tomorrow to give advice.

If I recall properly(from reading) the power steering module is attached to the power steering motor assembly. Both are on the steering column behind the dash and are easily accessible.
You didn't say if you did or did not get power on that wire directly to the left of that 60 Amp fuse.

I have a 2007 HHR 2LT that I bought new. The same weekend General Motors announced recalls of Cobalts and other GM models for power steering failures, my HHR began failing. It would fail, give a warning and chime, and would reset after turning the car off. My wife is refusing to drive it again unless fixed. However, when I contacted my dealer, they told me that the HHR is not included in the recall (or any current notice) and that I would personally be responsible for the cost of diagnostics and repair. I do not feel that GM has given adequate consideration to the HHR, which shares much of its technology with the Cobalt. At the very least, a failure should be covered if a full recall isn't issued.
power steering unit
I'am having the same problems with my 2006 HHR and a friend of ours found out that the Cobalt and HHR have same power steering unit. Its made by same company. And GM is currently in a lawsuit with the makers of the power steering units.Someone told me to try and put in a new battery. And I just found out that know one has a battery for the HHR and you have to get it from the dealer my battery has 3400 cold cranking amps when its only suppose to have 600. So my electrical system is going haywire.
