Power Steering Loss
Power Steering Loss
My 2008 HHR LS has a mind of its own. Several days after I bought the car from Apple Chevy/Cadillac in April 2012, a power steering fuse blew causing the power steering to go out completely, at the time I had a service air bag light that continued to pop up as well. I took it to the shop and they fixed the issue. The fuse from the power steering was replaced and as for the airbag light, they said they had replace a dielectric fuse(not sure what that is) but it fixed the light issue. Several months later, I am outside of my warranty and the cars power steering goes out whenever it likes. I found out if I place the car in park and turn it off, turning it back on resets the light and i regain control of my steering. Apparently, there is nothing the dealer can do and now I am uncertain of driving the vehicle with the chance of losing the power steering during these upcoming winter months and Pennsylvania's icy roads. What am I to do?

Sounds like the electric power steering motor is going bad and may need replacing.
You said there is nothing the dealer can do? Guess you mean as far as a warranty issue. I'm sure they can repair it, but you will have to pay for it.
Just one of the gambles of buying a used car. Sometimes repairs may be needed.
Turning the key off/on is just resetting the computer that controls it. There is a seperate control module for the steering motor.
Hope this helps and........Welcome to the site.

I can understand your frustration and concerns about your experience with your HHR.
I apologize for my confusion, but what is the reason that the dealership can’t do anything about your concerns?
