well turned on the rear defroster for the first time this year and one of the lines isn't working. Im still under warranty, does anyone know what they will do to fix it?

 

I suspect they will examine the line to see if some of your cargo has scraped it so that the circuit is open. A real possibility, if so they may wish to charge you for it. OR for customer relations they may repair it for free.

If they cannot find anything in the "exposed" area of the glass, they will remove the trim panel to see if the open is where the trim panel contacts the glass. Another real possibility, if so this maybe a bad design and thus warrantable and arguable - I would.

Most FSM have a procedure of repairing the resistor/heater element. I did not find one in my 2009 FSM.

Take a magnifying glass and examine the line yourself to have a better idea.

 

I would definatly take a close look at the one that is not working. Odds are, it got scrapped. Have you added tint to the rear window? If yes, that should help located any scrape.

I haven't had any cargo that would scrape it though well nothing stacked that high.

 

Do you clean the inside of your rear window often? Many times just the act of wiping the window with a cloth or paper towel could damage the heating element. To make sure that you don't cause damage I've always been told to wiping across the window, parallel to the heating elements, so that you minimize the chance of breaking a line.

 

Move to Florida. Problem solved!

 

Rear defroster? What is that? Never use em out here....

 

Wow you guys never get humidity around there and like 60 degree temps at night? That why mine was fogged up not because it was cold.

 

So is there a nick/break in the line? If so they have a repair kit available. It's like finger nail polish.
