You should replace all the hoses at the intake.

I ordered the purge valve and it should arrive on Sunday Hoping this will be the answer. The code comes on usually when the car is not moving, like at a traffic light, so motion is not triggering it. And it starts as the T/C light coming on, Then, sometimes the check engine light might come on. But both lights will generally go off after a little while.

History wise, I have been having the T/C light for other codes since I got the car. I immediately began modifying it, back in the So Cal days. K&N oiled filter, (which they said contaminated the MAP sensor), computer tune, Autolite plugs, octane booster pills, etc. But some people were throwing the T/C code with stock HHR's But that code made the car shift hard until it was cleared. And in my case, it generally happened after nailing it or going on bumpy roads.
That tells you it's a small vacuum leak. All the plumbing to the intake must be without cracks and fit snug.

The tune could be the problem.

The check engine light MIGHT come on? What is the status of the code? Pending, current, or historic?

And what is the status of the I/M monitors?

What year and engine are we talking about again? I check the profile and the first few posts and couldn't find it. OP mentioned 2006 in a prior thread. Was the power leak ever resolved? Do you still disconnect the battery?

that's why it is so tough. Back in the day lots of us were struggling with the T/C code. Checked the wheel sensors, switched to dry filter, restored the factory tune, etc.
When the flex pipe was leaking the car sounded rough, and drove crappy. With the new flex pipe and cat, the car drives better but still sounds rough. Still doesn't accelerate like it used to.

Perform a compression test. Dry then wet.
remove the valve cover , is the timing chain good and tight? Any damage to the front guide?

I passed inspection!!! Have no idea how I took your advice and stopped clearing the codes No lights on when I took it to the shop The mechanic told me to leave the engine running while he go the tester, and the T/C light lit up I though I was doomed, and planned on just getting the 10 day temp sticker. But after plugging it in, he came back with the new sticker. Needless to say, I will continue to work on resolving the PO171 issue, but now the pressure is off-at least for a year. Now I can get my hot rod Jeep ready for the nice weather, as well as drive the new car I just bought - a Lexus IS350 F Sport. I love my HHR and plan on keeping it Thanks again for all the help and support Tomorrow the new purge valve should arrive
