Was the replacement clamp one of those screw gear clamps, or just the one that apply pressure on a hose (like the ones that came in the HHR from the factory)?

Same as factory spring pressure type.

Some times its the installation..
ask if the mounting screws are cross threaded in the holes... would position the housing not completely flat...
