Radio Buttons not working? I need help!
You are de Man!! I tried your crazy way of fixing stuck keys, and it worked!. I have 2 HHR's. My is a 2008 with 151,389 miles and going strong. I bought it used in 2010. I've got to say it's one the best cars I ever owned. My wife drives a 2010 HHR. We've had a few problems, mostly brakes on both vehicles. Again, thank you for posting a crazy remedy to my stuck key problem.
OMG. IT WORKED.
I have a 2010 HHR-SS. While the buttons on the steering wheel continued to work fine, on the radio itself from left to right the buttons for "fav," presets 1 & 6, and "Eq" stopped working 2 nights ago. They came back to life briefly, but then were gone the next night. I just rapped on the volume knob as instructed and the affected keys started working again. I hope the fix lasts.

OK, a quick fix to try, and even though it sounds dumb...it brings the preset buttons back to life on both my 2006 and 2011 HHR's when the buttons go goofy every 18 months or so.
With the key turned to accessory, turn the radio off, and give the volume knob two or three sharp raps on its top edge with your knuckle, like you're trying to crack the shell on a hardboiled egg.
Then turn the radio on and check the presets for a return to normal function.
Why the head units lose certain functions on their faceplate buttons is debatable, but my technique of rapping on the volume knob has never failed.

I'm having an issue with LIGHTING.
The lights that show the channel; time; etc on the radio will be so dim I can hardly read them. Then for no reason they will brighten up and work 'right'.... Have no idea why; what causes it; or how to fix it. When this happens with the radio; I also have the same issue with the lights for odometer ; etc and that cluster where the speedometer are.
ANY IDEAS??
OK I'll check and see if it has any particles laying on.
So if it's the little sensor on top of the dash.... sounds like if you put a piece of tape or something to block out the incoming light; they would just say bright all the time..??

If you block out the sunlight to the sensor, it turns on the night lighting which is DIMMER back lighting.
