RADIO - No Display

The radio works .. I got music and I can change stations. There is no display, not even a dim one. I dont know what station i am on nor do I know the time. The kid tells me this problem started two weeks ago and was intermittent, he would whack it and it would come back on. Now the display does not light up at all. Any one have a clue as to whether this is a loose cable on back or internal loose connection within the head unit.

Most likely, loose connections internally

You can replace the face of the radio, from a used one, to not deal with programming a replacement factory one in. And that is if the face is indeed the problem.

There is always after market, crutchfield can point you in the right direction.

Had the same issue with my OE radio in my SS several years back. A sharp "thump" or 2 on the right knob would usually get the LED to pop back on. Dealer replaced my radio under warranty.
They said it was usually a bad LED screen that caused the issue.

First, to help understanding; they are not LEDs they are VacuumFluorescents. They look like LEDs.

Thanks for the clarification Don. I knew they weren't actual LED's. I just used that term because I'm not sure most folks would know what a VF display meant.

You were dead on about the "thump", my radio is working again. If/when it goes out again, I'll pull it, open it up and see if I can find the loose connection or solder joint. Thanks!
