Randomly won't shift out of park

Today my HHR wouldn't shift out of park ( on small incline) then the battery light came on and it died. Jumped it. It shifted, got about 100 ft down the street it started chugging, pulled to the curb, power steering went out. Battery died, won't shift. The cluster went dead, then back on, flashed power steering and check air bag. Surpentine belt is only a few months old. Will a bad battery cause these problems? Help

Yes, a dead or bad battery can cause these symptoms.

A bad alternator will kill a battery.

Thanks, I will try putting my battery from my van in it. If it starts I'll run it to O'reilys to have the alternator & starter checked.
