The switch pad is mounted in the beauty bar, yes you need to remove the inside hatch panel any the fasteners on the inside of the hatch.

On my 08 ss = i have to touch the left corner of my hatch button, other wise it won't open = needs replacement...

Try tapping/touching different soys on the oanel button...
