Rear hatch won't lock or unlock

Every thing locks 'except' the rear hatch when using the remote or the doorbuttons.
When the hatch is closed it still opens with the touchpad. It also engages mechanically when closing the hatch.

When the hatch is closed it won't lock with the door buttons or the remote, yet it sets off the horn alarm when the hatch is opened while set in lock mode.
Bottom line is the hatch works, it just won't lock.

Solutions or troubleshooting/testing ideas are appreciated.

TIA

Look for a loose/blown fuse first.

check fuse #10 in the Engine Compartment Fuse Block.
Also relay #18

Could be the rear hatch latch. The lock is built into it.

If it was a fuse, would the hatch open with the switch?

Brad, is there any TSB help with the rear hatch lift cylinders working slow in the cold weather. Mine are alot worse this winter than last. I'm taking the HHR in for this problem tomorrow and was wondering what you do when a customer complains of the cylinders working slow.
Thank's, Jim...............

We would replace both struts. No TSBs on this complaint. How cold is cold? I know I don't move very well when it's less than 30° F out either.
