Recommended Motor Oil - I Should Know This

I swear I read this somewhere months ago but I can't find it. I am confident it's 5w-30. But I am uncertain if I should be getting synthetic, full synthetic or high mileage.

I am staring with a blank look on my face at WalMart. And of course I have over 200k miles.

DO NOT USE 'high mileage'.
They contain addiyives that gum up the cam sensors.
Use a top grade 5w-30 and you'll be fine.
Synthetic is a personal choice.
And as for me 3000 miles max.

I thought high mileage was wrong...but that's what I bought. I can return it later. No big deal. I have other things to do at this point.

Thank you for your input.

GM thinks people can just open the hood and see the writing on the oil filler cap and the radiator filler cap.

Well of course there is that...but when there are 4 different types of 5w-30...going under the hood does you no good. I just remembered there was a caveat with the oil. And didn't want to put the wrong kind in based upon experience and knowledge.

If you need to check the owners manual, there’s a link in Donbrew’s signature.
I’ve used Castrol 5W30 Dexos synthetic oil , in both my HHR’s both high mileage engines, still running great and clean under the valve cover!
High mileage motor oil is snake oil to me. I do not use it or recommend it.
As for opening the hood, good point, but the oil filler cap is just labeled 5W30 in the 2007 2.2 in Oldblue so that’s not much help.

Ronnie- Avoid the Hi-Mileage oils. They will swell up engine seals as well, & in time harden them & cause potential for leaks..

Nothing wrong with a "Dexos" approved quality brand 5w-30 semi-synthetic oil..

I run 5w-30 Mobil 1 Full Syn. Extended Perf. But I have been feeding mine this since 2009. Myself, I would NOT switch to full Syn with very high mileage, if it was running conventional to this point.

GM dexos approved oils require proprietary tests that are not included in current industry standards. GF-5 is tested to meet API specifications. GF-5 oils are available in conventional, synthetic blend, and full synthetic versions, whereas dexos has to have some level of synthetic in order to meet GM's stringent requirements.

RJ - Thank You, I stand corrected.. (I'll correct my previous post).

I think I must have an oil leak because I am low on oil and I had my oil changed not that long ago.
