Hello Group. Yes the dreaded remote start issue on my 2008. I recently discovered my work wagon 2008 LS has remote start. After figuring out how to use the remote, I got the motor to start. It of course immediately shut off. Now what I have done prior to: Swapped motors, ECM. Reprogrammed ECM with VIN and Crankshaft Position. Checked all DTC's and erased any and all. Engine does not stay afloat long enough to see any dash warnings or codes for door , hood or hatch. Originally had aftermarket oil sensor, but have since put back to stock sensor. Lastly I did remove the stock radio for aftermarket. Not sure if radio has a part in BCM/ECM functions for the remote start, but could possibly be the culprit?
Clearing codes does not fix the issues that are causing the codes. Forget about remote start until the codes come back, and can then be addressed. Use the key to start until then.
This might be of help, depending on the new engine, ECM, ECM programming etc. Also, check your Center high mounted brake light that might play a role. Could be a flaky hood latch.
I was testing my remote start, had the hood only 1/2 shut, & it would not even start. So that works. Closed the hood completely & it starts as intended.
I was thinking more like the latch vibrates loose after it starts. I don't know my 2008 was hacked and the 2011 didn't have it.
There are 2 signals from the switch; 1 open 1 is not closed. The purple wire needs to be grounded and the pink/black wire needs to be open
There is a long list of things that inhibit remote start. A low battery has been the problem; for reasons I don't get, it requires more voltage to run with RVS than with the key.
I have ruled out the doors, hood and hatch. From what I understand it will not even turn over if any of those are ajar. Still curious if the radio has anything to do with the system because they are integrated into the security? Don't necessarily want to put stock radio back in just to find out and reprogram radio. Aby help on this would help me looking in other directions. Again it will start, but immediately shuts of 3 to 4 seconds in.
It's an HHR not a BMW. You can use the car with a stolen radio, you just can't use the radio.
Have you ruled the battery out? Did you use a GMLAN module for the radio? What year motor/ECM? If it stops there should be some kind of code. Does the ECM have the updated software?
During the engine run time in a RVS attempt, before the operator enters the vehicle, the ECM may discontinue engine operation if system conditions require it or a message is received from the BCM requesting the engine be turned OFF. So you need to find if the BCM is telling the ECM to turn the engine off.
