Replacing the fuel pump

Hi, I have a 2006 HHR LS 2.2 .that I have been told the regulator valve in the fuel pump is bad. I just wanted to know if you really have to lower the exhaust pipe to get the tank out. Thanks in advance for any help.

Just remove the rubber hangers and it’ll slide out of the way. It’s a bit cantankerous but if you have a helper operating the jack while you manipulate the fuel tank.
