Roof Rack side rail plastic push fastener HELP!!!

Hey all, this being my first post I will state I have an 08' LS silverstone metallic. Nothing fancy but I love it. Either way the other day took the cover/cap off the roof rack and the plastic retainer snapped. I cannot find the part anywhere. Searched Dorman online catalog for 2 hours, looked through GM partsdirect site. I cant find a thing. Anyone here got the part number to it? Or be able to point me to where to get this??? Is this fastener used in any other part of the vehicle or other gm models?
thanks
GC

Can always check the parts dept at a Chevy Dealer.
Here is a thread on how to remove the rails but it tells about the end caps which is what I believe you broke. or were you talking of some other piece?

At least you will know how to do it next time.

It isnt the chrome cap, It is underneith it. There is a removeable black "push-type" fastener that slides into a channel on the cap, that when you push down on the cap, it locks the cap on. This broke, and I have searched everywhere. My dealer has no clue. It looks kind of like a push-type fastener that holds on a door panel or other trim part.

If no one else can chime in I have one other idea. Should be some used auto parts stores or auto wrecking places there in Fla that you could check with, but don't think they would sell only the clip and leave them with the rails, unless the rails are damaged from a roll over.

Anyone know a site where I can find all the push type retainers?

Maybe this will help... maybe not. I broke the same plastic fastener and repaired it by drilling a small hole in the top where the hat section broke off and inserting a small stainless trim screw, run down to the proper height to secure the chrome cap. If you're handy it's an easy and permanent repair

Do you have the pieces? can you glue it together with methelyne-chloride or a CA adhesive?

Will try the drilling. Also have a new set of rails sitting around but dont really want to take them out of the box!
