Service ESC = Malfunctioning Yaw Rate Sensor

The Service ESC + ESC OFF + idiot light code indicated a malfunctioning yaw rate sensor.
When the extended warranty adjustor visited the service dept he couldn't verify it so they won't pay to replace it.

1.) Shouldn't a code thrown about an intermittant problem be enough justification for them?

2.) How much should this cost me if I get it fixed out-of-pocket?

3.) Is it a job for a changes-his-own-oil-and-is-mechanically-inclined kinda guy to do myself?

Thanks

There's got to be a way to go over that warranty adjustor's head... This is a safety issue, No?

It could be

Is this a GM extended warranty or one from a third party. Yes its a safety issue, with a yaw sensor out the system will not perform as designed and may actually cause a problem. If you're dealing with a GM warranty contact the zone manager and let him/her know what's going on.

That's a good idea.

I'll try that but it's a third party warranty so it'll depend.

They have a new service manager now.

He says that the warranty adjuster doesn't come out to verify everything.
He could have been there to verify one of the other issues.

The part alone is $280 so he says that I should have them read the code again the next time it happens and try again to get them to replace it then.

It's a nuisance when it happens but it's infrequent.
No biggie since I have 45K left on the extended warrenty.

So the code was thrown, they read it and cleared codes..... now they have to see it again? They have no record of the visit when they read the code the first time? Or they need you to get in an accident so they can say "yep, you got a problem there..."

Why do they still call these service departments? More like "we can't find the problem" departments.

It's the warranty adjuster's decision.
The service manager tried but couldn't talk them into it.

He did get GM to pay for the brake booster pump, seat belt retractor replacement & a few days of rental.
All of which the extended warranty refused
That's at 54000 miles and not covered by GM but he got it done.

I don't have a problem with the service dept but with the third party extended warranty company.

The service manager told me to try again when the issue reoccurs so it'll show that it's a reoccuring, intermittant problem.
He's confident that it'll get done next time.

I have a dealer with a "pretend the problem doesn't exist" department. Seems they've never heard of software updates.

Probably because no one has ever asked for them..the 06's have an update package..I think thats the only one
