Try activating the e-brake WITHOUT the brakes applied with your foot.
Sometimes the hydraulic pressure from the pedal interferes with the ebrake application.
Again, count how many ckicks are needed to apply.
Next, apply the e-brake while moving, but not very fast.
These are 2 different systems that (to me) require seperate attention.

I meant : pull the handle, without foot on brake, with moderate pull, counting clicks till it gets hard. 3 clicks is good.
Not King Kong pull

Donbrew, ok I did that test while it was rolling, foot off the pedal at a crawl, and at 3 clicks I felt no slowing down at all. At 4 clicks I felt a little something, at 6 it stopped rolling.

That's not what I meant, but proves the point. I meant parked.
The rear brakes are doing nothing.

Problem simply disappeared

Hello, this is an update to the squishy brakes. I waited until my oil change was ready to do last weekend and by then the brakes just… stopped being squishy. They act like regular brakes now. I did the oil change and someone told me to check my front wheel bearings so I did that while it was jacked up. They didn’t wiggle and they don’t make noise so I assume that means they’re not the problem. I didn’t adjust the rear shoes because they’re just not squishy anymore. They’ve been squishy for probably about a year now and the problem just suddenly evaporated. Really strange. But it makes me wonder if something even worse is about to happen.

Rear shoes adjustment

Also I just realized I should probably still check the rear shoes adjustment anyway. It’s Christmas so probably not this weekend. I have to do some more stuff in the shop anyway just minor stuff like need new front brakes already, didn’t have time last weekend. So I will try to get some shop time next weekend and report back again if it was out of adjustment or what. Merry Christmas to those who celebrate it! And happy weekend

"need new front brakes already" makes me think rears need adjusting, badly.
