SS fan motor not working.
 

I tried searching but havnt found an exact answer to my questions..
So my dads ss hhr overheated the other day to about 250.
He tested the fan directly to the battery and it kicked on.
He tried turning on the car with the AC on and, the fan still didn't kick on.
Is there a thermostat switch that could fail? Causing the fan to not kick on?
In all my Hondas I just bypassed the thermo switch to make the fan run constantly.

Also I read that it's possibly that it's the fan motor assembly.
Is there a troubleshooting test to assure me that it is the fan motor?
We also checked fuse 30 and 40 and both were empty.

250 degrees is screaming hot, and head gasket/cylinder head damage can occur very quickly.

I think for the ss cars the cooling fan module comes with the complete cooling fan. Dose yours look like this?

I think you're right Lucky, the FCM is integral to the cooling fan assembly, makes it pricey, but not nearly as expensive as a head gasket job or head replacement.

Now here's my next question.
Where is the fan relay?
All the threads point to fuse/relay "50, 40, and 30" I believe.
And on my 2009 ss they are all blank..
We also have a 2008 non ss and that IS where the relays are. But not for my 2009 ss.

The diagram on the fuse box only shows a fuse which is fine.
I'm looking to test the relay before forking out 400$ for the fan assembly.

When applying power my father said it was 3 wires and 2 of them were "hot" and one for sure had 14 volts when the car was running at 170-196 degrees.
Still wouldn't power the fan on.

Try the internets, most of the online GM parts places are way cheaper than your local store. One that helped me save thousands is GMpartsoutlet.net, but there are several.

I seem to remember discussions on the forum about the diagrams being wrong, there is no relay?

If I was interested I would use the SEARCH box for you. But I have a 2.2L.

The way I understand it is the ss don't have a relay in slot 50. The ss uses the control module and ECM to control the fan.

And don it right google the fan motor. The picture that I posted was from a google search and it listed that fan for 160.00
