Steering wheel position sensor

Hey guys, I'm an looking for info about the steering wheel position sensor recalibration. I have recently replaced the steering wheel motor and front struts on my 08 hhr ss and now the esc light is on and power steering comes across on the dash. When I had it done, the tech said to take it to the dealer and have the sensor recalibrated. So I did take it to the dealer and they said there isn't one to recalibrate. Any suggestions?

It is often called a clock spring. Very simple device, but hard to explain. With the sensor out of the steering column, turn it clockwise all the way til it stops, then turn it all the way counterclock wise until it stops. If you use ANY force at all, you will definately break it. Now you know it's limits, go to center. There is a yellow disc in the window, get the yellow disc at dead center. Now it is centered. If you spin the steering wheel with the shaft disconnected, it will most definately break the ribbon in the clock spring. The clock spring will NOT stop the heavy steering wheel from spinning past it's limit. The clock spring is very very fragile.

There is a steering wheel position sensor Not the same as clockspring.
It takes a Tech2 scanner or equivalent to do it.
However, LCAs and struts and motor should not have done anything to it. Is the steering wheel centered? If you take the airbag off you should be able to see the key should be straight up. It could be messed up if an alignment guy decided to straighten the wheel by adjusting the toe, then a later guy decided to move the wheel after replacing the bent parts that the first guy was trying to cover up..,

I suspect there was nothing wrong with the motor to begin with. It was probably the power steering module or something even sillier like the fuse.

Why was the motor replaced?

I don't understand the string of words ". Last yr I had it aligned and they guy said there was something with the steering and now that the new parts were put on". I know there is some information hiding in there but not clear.

If it was only on right turns whoever told you that is stupid. Much more likely the rack & pinion is bad.

Just to confuse customers and have some fun, they would ask me why an electric window goes down fast but not up.
I would say "That's because you use it more going down than up".

X3 in the steering rack being worn. The steering angle sensor is part #3 in this pic, in the lower end of the electric power steering motor and not under the steering wheel where the clock spring lives! This is an SS sensor
