Edit: I’m at the shop right now. Ended up being the coolant temp sensor. It was reading that the vehicle was 8 degrees. Everything else appears to be okay he said. So all in all it’s going to cost $150 for parts and labor and he’s doing it right now.
will update when the job is done and let you guys know how the cars running
A stat that can stick open can stick closed. Don't drive it on 270 miles trips. Fix it.
Temp gauges worked fine on trip, it was only after I got home that it acted up. outside temps went from 72 to about 83 during the trip, engine temp stayed around 178-180. Trips afterwards (when it acted up) were about 3-5 miles each. This is the second time this has occurred Using the scanner to reset fixed it both times. This last time I reseated the connectors, and checked the fuse box to see if it was lose. Both times when I reset with the scanner, the temp went up to 178. Both times it was on warmer outside temp days.(80-90 degrees) First time the A/C worked fine, this time it wouldn't work (no cool air) About 8 months on coolant and thermostat change..
If I can't drive it on a 270 mile trip, it is going to be parked or scrapped. Too old to fight with cars I can't trust. One of my other vehicles is a 1999 Land Rover... and it is dependable after a lot of work finding all the gremlins!

Yeah I know but it’s working fine now and I’m already out the shop. If I were knowledgeable on working on cars I’d have given it a shot but I didn’t know how to diagnose what it was initially. Overall I’m happy tho it ended up being 110 because he didn’t have to use as much coolant as he thought. But it most definitely was a quick job lol. But hey that’s the beauty of being a mechanic these days I guess lol
