Three times to the dealer
Three times to the dealer
I bought my 09 SS in December of 08.
I scheduled an appointment to have the windshield replaced because it had rock chips in it when I picked it up. The night before I took it in the engine light came on and I noticed that the front corner of the drivers door was scratching the paint off of the running board. They replaced the windshield and checked the engine code. They said it had something to do with the radiator fan so the fan housing was replaced. I drove it for a couple of weeks and when I was taking it into the body shop to fix the door problem, the engine light came on again. I took it in and this time they kept it and gave me a rental for a few days. Wow, a minivan, I get to be a soccer mom. They replaced the fan. I never had a problem with overheating or coolant leaks and the car ran fine both times the light came on. I do notice a hot antifreeze smell when I shut down now but I don't see any leaks.
I left town on a 400 mile trip and the light came on again. It still ran fine. The temperature never got above about 200 degrees so I just kept on going. I got back to town and took it to the dealer. I told them to check the code and just reset it and give the car back to me if they can't figure it out and fix it right away. Well, they talked me into leaving it and taking a rental. It's been in the shop for 7 days now. The say it's the ECM and they are on backorder. So now I'm driving a little piece of @#$% Aveo while my little red hot rod sits silently in their shop. The sad thing is, it runs fine, easily pulling 100+ mph and getting great mileage. The only thing wrong with it is that it turns the engine light on.

Has anyone else had this kind of trouble?
I guess I'll have to fire up the gas guzzling SS El Camino and drive it for a while. It's always fun to watch the gas gauge and the tach needles go in opposite directions at almost the same speed.
In the HHR I get 24 mpg at 100 mph, in the Elky I get 8 mpg no matter what speed I go.

I have a 2006 with about 68,000 miles on it. My engine light and my variable traction light kept coming on, but I went to my regular mechanic rather than the dealer because everything is out of warrenty. Found out that the wiring harness rubs on the engine and there is a notice out to repair shops. The rubbing cuts through the wires and causes false trouble lights.
There is also another thread in here about loose fuses causing false trouble lights. I would hope the dealer would know enough to check but it never hurts to call them and tell them that you want those two things checked.
