Sunroof stuck open in tilted position
I had this happen today on my 2006. Opened fine but stopped in tilted position. Checked rails, fuses etc. Pulled the overhead switch down. Jiggled the connection and started working again. Went ahead and unplugged it then plugged it back in. Works fine now. If it happens again it will be the first thing i check.

Thank you for posting about your experience.
We recently replaced the switch, but that didn’t work. We now are waiting for an appointment with a guy who repairs sunroofs. Hopefully, he’ll be able to fix it and then I’ll tell you what he said/did. Thanks, again! |
Dear sir,
I don't understand exactly what the problem is; Express open/close is not working sunroof inoperative sunroof does not open sunroof express vent open/close feature inoperative sunroof does not close from vent position sunroof does not close One not so obvious thing to check is the switch illumination, does it light up? Will the sunroof operate if the lights are turned off? Is there any foreign material on the track? Is the sunshade and window adjusted properly? Are the side opening closeout covers installed properly? Does the dome lamp work? Does the panel spotlight work? Do the lights on the mirror work? Pardon me if you have done all of this. Step 1 is did you look for foreign objects. Step 10 is see if it works now. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...41b2b42837.png |
Has there been a solution to this?
This is exactly whats going on with my sunroof. It's stuck tilted open and no sounds or movement when toggled to close. Just a motor clicking sound when toggled to open. Bought a new switch and it still did not fix the issue. |
When that happened to mine it was discovered that the tilting mechanism had broken.
I dropped the headliner and replaced the complete sunroof with one removed from a 'donor' Not fun to do but I have a functioning sunroof |
Your buttons were acting the same as well?
|
Buttons worked fine.
They just didn't do anything. Just got clicks and noises, no movement |
@Donbrew, thanks for the TS guide.
Mine has been parked for a year now and walked by it today (and every day) and saw the sunroof popped up a bit in vent mode. Super strange. Hopped in and wouldn't close, but would open. Ugh. If I don't get it working today, gotta clean out the garage tomorow LOL Wish me luck! Will post results/fixes if/when I get one. Update: Ordered a switch. Took the old one apart and yup ugly on the inside (just like me :) ) Tarp over it until next weekend. |
When I got my 2006, it had a dent in the roof right behind the sunroof, and was sealed with duct tape, which quickly failed. Eventually I was able to lift the roof and somewhat seal the opening. Since I don't use sunroofs, I sealed it with Flex-seal tape. I redo it every spring as it does wear out over the winter. Motor and switch works fine, just a bent body around the outside edge. My HHR is a daily driver so I don't worry too much about the roof. Using thee clear seal it is O.K. by me.
