As for the clutch, I would doubt you would need a new clutch; problems engaging/disengaging like you see are often caused by the hydraulics like master/slave cylinder and not worn clutch plates. I'd get a second opinion on that one for sure(I'm assuming it's a hydraulic clutch here).
ChevyGuySS-
Sounds like the slave cylinder in the bellhousing may be getting tired. My S-10 had the same issue..
All HHR Stick shifts have hydraulic clutch setups.
Bummer is to change the slave, you must remove the tranny.. Ouch !!

ive noticed that ours is hard to get into 1st once in a while as well. if im on a slight incline and let it roll slightly, it slips right in. this happens because the synchros rely on the shafts turning to actually synchronize. at a standstill, you are jamming the shift collar against mis-aligned synchro sleeves. try shifting into another gear, then into first. that may help to re-align the synchro assembly into a better position for gear engagement.
My 08 SS just exhibited this TPMS problem today. The RR sensor was intermittently reporting zero pressure. This vehicle has 55,000 on the odometer. Before logging on to the HHR Net, I did a Google search, which pointed to an earlier thread in which ChevMgr mentioned a TSB, something to do with reprogramming the system.

That thread is when they rotate your tires, so your LF reading is not the RR tire.
I went the battery route, as I was starting to see intermittent signal loss, and it was never the same tire twice in. but this was starting to happen more and more. so replaced the battery and no more prob.

There is a warning in the owner's manual about the Getrag transmission sometimes being hard to shift into 1st gear. On page 125 it reads "If you have come to a complete stop and it is hard to shift into 1st, put the shift lever in neutral and let up on the clutch. Press the clutch pedal back down. Then shift into 1st."
I had this problem 2 days ago with the RR -- on my 08. Just got back from a trip on the highway and it WAS pretty hot out. I scrolled through the DIC and saw the double dash for the right rear tire. Then I shut it down and started it back up and it was reading again. Said the pressure was 36! Maybe just an over-pressure warning? Don't know...
