Traction Control Problem

Having a problem with disabled Traction Control. I’m looking for things that would disable the T/C and light up on the dashboard. For instance does pulling the emergency brake do it? Or maybe a bad O2 sensor.
I’m new to the forum AND the Car (2006 HHR LT) so be gentle with the rookie please.

Sometimes the VVT valves cause that issue as it did with my 2008 2LT in the past.

There are numerous CEL's that can trigger the ABS light (disabled) Usually it will be Powertrain related codes I believe.
Been talked about over the years on this forum. I don't believe anyone ever found an official GM list of which CEL codes shut down which systems on the HHR. (ABS, TC, ESC, etc.) Most likely one of GM's programming specs that they like to keep secret and to themselves.

Any other lights on the dash? Is it a 2.2L or a 2.4L, LT usually have 2.4L not always. Does the car have ABS? Do the hubs make noise? Is this new? Changed the air filter lately?

Welcome to the site, Willy. The TC light can come on by many reasons as mentioned, as you just got this 2006 LT , how old is the battery and what condition is it in? Low voltage can set the dash lights ablaze , because the computers lose their minds!
I see in your profile you have a 2.4

Need to get the codes. Not with a auto store but a better tool that can read the module.

Yes, for instance it could be timing chain related, or wheel hub abs sensor, it could be C0561,

https://www.engine-codes.com/c0561_chevrolet.html

But I doubt that. So get the codes read, write them down and post them here, not that we don’t trust that counter guy at the parts palace, but if he tells you it’s a brake problem he might be right but probably not even close.

Okay then. HHR. 2006, 2.4L engine, auto tranny, battery condition unevaluated, the T/C light has been coming and going
So far i have diagnosed and replaced the VVT intake and exhaust. Replaced the air filter. Replaced warped brake rotors. Got a code (P0030) for but not yet replaced the upstream (bank 1 sensor 1) O2 sensor. P0102 for MAS, mass air problem(?).
I’m going to check the battery now.

You likely have a wheel speed sensor problem. If the engine is not performing bad there's no need to chase engine problems thinking that will fix the T/C light.

I bet it is the P0102.
Have you checked fuse #33 underhood? Good bet since the O2 heaters and the MAF are on the same fuse. Look at all the wires and ground locations. Check the MAF plug. Unless you like to throw parts around.
There are a total of 15 codes for the EBCM, none of them will tell you anything useful beyond which wheel has a sensor problem all of the others just tell a brake specialist (who knows what they mean) where to start looking.

If the engine is not performing bad there's no need to chase engine problems thinking that will fix the T/C light.
WRONG!!
