Trunk door opens when my hhr is locked.

I was wondering if anyone else had this issue and how to fix it. When my hhr is locked and you go to open the trunk it opens. Big issue to me so I was wondering if anyone has a fix. I searched the forum but couldn't find anything. Thanks guys!

Not had that issue, but try hitting the lock button (on fob) 2 X, & check...

Can you hear the solenoid trying to activate or deactivate when you use the fob? I would start checking there first to make sure I was getting power to the solenoid.

You likely need a new latch assembly (the lock/unlock selenoid is part of it) if you can't hear it click when locking doors.

I've had the opposite problem (couldn't open the hatch) when the touch switch above the license plate failed on me last fall.

The FOB does not control a Liftgate solenoid; The FOB signal is received by the RCDLR/TPMS and then digitally sent to the BCM. Both the Liftgate motor/solenoid and the activating switch are controlled by the BCM. That is where your problem is, in the BCM.

Not something we DIYers are capable in handling.

I hate to say this, but take it to the dealer. Or you may first try a reset of the vehicle by disconnecting the battery for say 30 minutes.

For those interested: When the Liftgate “OPEN” switch is pressed the BCM receives the signal and then sends voltage to the Liftgate relay. The Liftgate relay then powers the Liftgate motor/solenoid to open. In this case the BCM is goofed up and has not disabled that function when the car is “LOCKED”.

After reviewing the schematic you could also have a short to power on the Liftgate relay. Check the Liftgate relay terminals, you should only have power to one of the four terminals once you remove the relay, not two of the terminals. AND/or replace the relay.

Look for the thread. Seems I had that problem and there's something in the fuse box that doesn't belong which controls this lock. Isn't that right?

I just put a fuse in position 11 and tried it out on my 2009 LS. Just what the original poster wrote. One can open the liftgate when the vehicle is locked. The number 11 fuse position is right next door to the Liftgate Relay.

I'll bet he is storing spare fuses in some of the many unused fuse slots. For those who do not know – there are slots in the cover for the smaller size spare fuses. Unfortunately there are no slots in the cover for the large spare fuses.

Just checked and the OP bought a used 2006, no telling what has been done to it.
