Grind the teeth off a hacksaw blade, put masking tape on it, and bend as necessary, I'm sure it's strong enough to push 'the thing' out of the way...

Its an interesting problem, time for some forum brainstorming.
I just bough my 08 SS and I have the exact same thing. Idk what caused it. hangers sound like the best idea.
