warped rotors - AGAIN!!!
That is why all my techs are required to use torque sticks when tightening lug nuts, they also have to check the lugs again once on the ground with a torque wrench. Remember to always ask to see the Lateral run out specs on the rotor, and whenever possible watch when they put the wheels back on to make sure they are using torque sticks and/or torque wrenches.
Now start preaching that to all the other service departments out there.

I have had this same problem in my other cars, even ones with "good" factory brakes, (EVO, GTO). It is typically due to someone using an air ratchet to install your lug nuts after reinstalling a wheel. In some instances I have been able to cure it by removing the wheel, and when reinstalling the wheel I would advance the wheel 90 degrees on the rotor/hub and then reinstalling the lug nuts properly using a torque wrench. I then follow this routine:

Also avoid setting your emergency brake when parking especially when the brakes are still hot. This could result in pad transfer from the brake pad to the rotor, which can create uneveness in the rotor. Good luck with your new Rotors and Pads.

That will not be a problem on the HHR unless you have a SS with disk brakes on the rear.

I am so precious with my new brakes, I'm reluctant to let anyone else remove and rotate my tires, lest they over torque the lug nuts. I know the person who installed my brakes used a torque wrench to spec, so I might just let him service my HHR from now on.
My used 07 I just bought had the rotors turned right before I bought it. Do I have to jack it up to torque the lugs or can I go around to all the wheels with it on the ground? I figure if I do it now the problem may be delayed and then I will put after markets on. Thanks
I had planned on starting this exact thread, but I see we're 5 pages into this topic...
I have an '07 LT I bought new in town from the dealer. I have just over 12k miles on it now.
It's been to the dealer 2x already for squeaky brakes in the rear, and warped brakes in the front. The first time it went in 3 months after I bought it, with 4k miles on it. The 2nd time was 7 months and 10k miles.
It's doing it again, just 2k miles later...
I've owned GM vehicles for 25 years. I've had warped rotors before. However, the difference was that the other vehicles had 30k-70k miles on them before they started doing it.
Make no mistake: they're using crappy hardware here. The rotors ARE inferior. I always check the torque on the lug nuts after anyone has worked on it, so that's not the issue. I also don't ride the brake or brake exessively hard. I drive a combination of hwy/city to and from work, so there's not a lot of stop and go, nor is there too much highway braking...Which only leaves the rotors. They suck.
The Svc. Mgr. told me last time, that if I had to bring it back in, that he was authroized to replace the rotors. I might see if he'll either pay for slotted ones, or give me credit towards them. I shouldn't have to fork out all of it for a decent part, imo.
The lemon law has crossed my mind once or twice. But, I do like the car still. I think I will start my

Dealer charged me $135 to turn rotors. This is the third time in year and a half. Went to aftermarket place to get them replaced. After a while the technician comes to see me and asks me why I'm getting brakes. The brakes are fine, rotor smooth, plenty of pad left. I tell him how I've had them cut three times now as a result of having to stop at highway speeds. He recommended trying to lemon law the car and get my money back. It is certainly acting like a lemon.
I bought my 06 HHR just a few months ago, trading up from a Mini Cooper. I just love it, it fits us perfectly. No issues so far, other than slightly warped rotors, a light rattle in the left front and a light rattle in the rear hatch, all of which I will fix. Ratpack
