What temp for cooling fan to come on
What temp for cooling fan to come on
I bought a 2011 hhr last April. Since then the operating temp on the dash seems to hover between 185-190. This being SC have used the AC since then. Now that the outside temp is cooling off I've been running without the AC on and noticed the other day that the engine temp went up to 210 while sitting at a red light. As I began driving and the temp lowered back down to 185-190. The fan did not come on at idle and I was wondering if I had a problem. The fan does come on when the AC is on so the fuse and relay should be ok. I noticed on another thread that the fan should not come on at an idle until around 217. Is this normal. I was about to take it to a mechanic until I read that other thread, no I'm not sure I have a problem or not.
2011, so that's 5 years old, I would suggest you replace the Dexcool and thermostat, Dexcool has a five year lifespan.
It has been proven many times here use 50/50 mix Dexcool and a new GM 180 degree thermostat
Regular green antifreeze and a Stant or Motorad thermostat have been proven to fail, they don't warm and the thermostat doesn't open in the time frame the ECM is looking for, it will then throw a P0128 code!
