wheel bearings

47,000 miles on the 2010 HHR.

Front tires got real noisey, the inside of drivers side tire seems to have a slight cuping. [ new tires ] gggrrrrr

Took it to my mechanic [ still there ] and he told us it needs wheel bearings on both sides at $250 a side. Seems pricey?

just sayin

thanks Link

Are the bearings still covered under the 100,000 mile drive train warranty on the 2010? I know they are on my 08 (as it is at the dealer now have at least one bearing replace). If it were not under warranty I would be doing it myself.
Good luck.

Nope, 2010 and later wheel bearings are covered on the bumper to bumper, which I think expired at a lower mileage than that.
Up to 2009, they are covered on the longer powertrain warranty. I plan to get my 2008 done once more before it expires end of this year.
As for the price, 240 isnt outrageous, but you should get top quality parts for that. There are different cost levels for these depending on source.
It may sound like a lot if you are used to older cars, on hhrs the entire hub assembly is replaced.

You can get Chinese bearings for around $65 each + 1 hour labor each. I would ask your guy for a look at the parts and the boxes. Chinese and Korean parts are "cheap", Timken etc are expensive ($240 each). Remember that repair shops markup the parts prices, sometimes more than triple what you may pay on Ebay. Perhaps a shop would install a $65 part and charge $200 and tell you its raining while urinating on your foot.

I am only saying that you can get 3 $65 parts for the price of 1 $180 part. Get informed and guaranteed with labor included. Personally I get the cheap parts and do my own labor, I am under the car at least every other week anyway.

$607 = bearings for both sides seemed to cure the problem.

Could be worse I guess.

just sayin.

6 months and 8,000 miles later the r.f. bearing is gone again. I called the mechanic and he said it is warranted. Moral of the story is - don't ***** at your wife for a full overstuffed pocket book. That is where the repair slip was.

I'm currently experiencing the same problem. Got my drivers side WB replaced earlier this year and it's gone bad again. Hopefully I can find my receipt and figure out if there's anything else causing premature wear on it.
