Where did my cruise control go?

I have a 2008 panel, 2.2/auto, just under 60,000 miles. I recently had the electric power steering fail & my dealer replaced it for free. At nearly the same time, the gauges started going nuts in perfect choreography. No one else could figure it out so I let the dealer do their hi-tech diagnostic on it. The exact quote from their receipt is "search TSBS & several mention battery issues". By this time I was so frustrated with it I told them to just put a new battery in it then figuring that it was then on them if it did not fix it. But surprise, it seemed to fix everything. A month or so later, the first time that I had to take the car out of town, no cruise control. Press the button on the steering wheel & the light comes on but the cruise speed does not set. This is something that worked flawlessly before. Any ideas on this?

Check the hi brake lights they are 921’s and the brake lights they are 3057’s also a code could disable the cruise like P0128 .

If I remember correctly you have a burned out bulb in the center brake light.... This is somehow tied into cruise control.

Also check fuse #10 in the underhood fuse box ensure it is fully seated , then check fuse #19 in the interior fuse panel .

Not sure what the term is but the bulbs must be working to complete the circuit. Something to do with hitting the brakes to disengage the cruise.

Cat Man. If you want a head scratch scenario, try this. Crank up your 5 speed HHR without touching the brake pedal. Proceed onto the road without touching the brakes. Then get up to speed and try to set the cruise control.................IT won't work !
The brakes, brake lights, pedal sensor or whatever has to be engaged at least once every start cycle before the cruise can be used.
And how do I know.............

Yeah... Fireman got it... The disengage is tied into the center brake light.

I think some guys have also lost cruise after trying LEDs for the center brake light.

There's also a sensor on the brake pedal that could disable cruise control.

No, it is the resistance of the CHMSL. If one is out there is not enough resistance. On a 5 speed the clutch switch will turn it off.

How else are you going to know when the brake light blows out? When the waterfall lights go out it means the other rear lights are malfunctioning. If they had bothered to put that in the Owner Manual they would have to fire Mr. Goodwrench.
