Windshield Cracks

Anyone had a problem with the windshield developing cracks? One started in mine about 5 days after I got it. Started under the seal by the pass wiper. Of course the dealer (Waldecker) said it was from a rock, and refused to replace it. No chip marks; nice and smooth. Anyone could see it wasn't from that. Oh well, just ranting :)

I don't recollect any of the members indicating their windshield just "cracked", without some external force influencing the crack.

But if you are absolutely sure the windshield cracked on its own, go to the dealer and ask them to set an appointment with the area rep.

Also call the Chevrolet Customeer Service number in the rear of you Owners Manual.

Our HHR windshield has taken some hard blows, which left two chips on the pass side within 1 inch of each other. I was amazed as how it didn't crack either time.

I could be mistaken, but I thought a few people used to complain of the poor-quality glass that came on these cars.

Good luck with it, though!

Thanks for the replies. My insurance company has already said they would replace it at no cost to me, but I wanted the dealer to pay for it :) Some dealers just don't care about repeat business I guess.

I have a crack in my HHR.

I have had a similar crack in the GM vehicles that my family has owned.

All these cracks happen in pretty much the same place, about a foot or so from the base of the windshield. I think one of the causes for this is the airflow from the windshield defroster. These cracks, in my case, always form right where the airflow hits the windshield. Living in a cold climate the heat usually gets cranked up right at start up to keep the windshielf from fogging and stuff and it probably causes a pretty significant heat differential between the interior and the exterior of the windshield right in that localized area.

The windshield could crack very easily due to that, especially if it happens to be hit by a stone in that area.

My HHR windshield cracked two or three months after I got it which would have been either Nov or Dec.
