Windshield Wipers Acting Goofy

Ok...so I noticed this a few months ago, but haven't had a whole lot of heavy rain while driving so it was never really an issue. Anyways, when I put my wipers on the highest setting of intermittent, (the fastest they can go without being on constant) it works normal for a little while, then every once in a while they will just start going constantly without shutting off. After a few minutes they'll go back to normal, and be working intermittently again. So basically it acts like I turn it up faster, but I don't touch anything.

Anyone ever heard of this before, or have any clues what might be the problem? I think maybe I might see about taking it in one day.

When on intermittent they will speed up as your road speed go's up to the point that is so close to high speed it is hard to tell.. Page 3-8 intermittent speed senstive wipers 06 Manual. Also wipers will activat headlamps when turned on page 3-14 Wiper activated headlamps

Yes, when you get up to 55 w/ the wipers set on the position you say, they will work as if they are on at a regular setting.

Really? Hmm...did not know that. I will have to look that over in the manual. I did know that the lights were supposed to come on after 15 seconds of the wipers being on, but mine don't.

And actually...that really doesn't make sense if I have my cruise set, my speed isn't changing...so I don't know why it would start and stop. But I will have to read up on it...

Thanks!

Should be 30 secs after the wipers are turned on, but not sure if they come on w/ the intermittent selection.

I thought it was 15, but I may be wrong....often I am.... I know my mom's G6 does it no matter what setting you have the wipers at, it will turn the lights on. Next time it rains (shortly) I should check.

A few months before trading in my 06 for an 09 HHR, my speed sensitive intermittent wipers began acting up. The intermittent speed would change for no reason. While at a constant speed the wipers delay was not constant. It was never really dramatic and I often thought that I was going crazy. Since the car was way out of warranty (I drive a lot), I never had it looked at. I haven't read the manual for the 09, but it doesn't seem to have the speed sensitive intermittent function.

If I find time...I may have it taken in. It isn't a huge concern since it doesn't really hurt anything. I would just hate to have something going bad now, that will go bad in a few years that will need to be replaced out of warranty.

Yeah, I just read it...and I see it does say it has speed sensitive wipers.

Oh, and to correct my first post, I did not have the cruise on, I had forgot. It was raining, and I don't use the cruise control in the rain.
