Wireless entry keyfob

I bought a deal on Amazon to program my key fob on my 2006 HHR LS. When I bought it all the guy had was a key I thought no big deal. I learned that you may have to goto a lock smith to get keyfob programed so I bought a deal that you plug into the odb2 plug and it is supposed to beep or have a red light come on . At that point you hold lock and unlock till doors lock then you are good to go.

Well I worked with it for a hour or so then called the manufacturer who was very nice and tried to help.

We determined that the unit plugged into odb2 was not able to communicate with the body control module .

I also discovered that the rear view mirror is not the correct mirror.

I wonder if the old mirror was a onstar mirror and if that may be why I cannot connect to the BCM.

I found that the lights did not work on the rear view mirror and found the mirror
It was not plugged in due to the fact that it was the wrong mirror and the plug I have is just a single row plug with 7 pins I believe.

So I wonder if the mirror not being plugged into a onstar mirror would cause the BCM not to communicate.

Thus not letting program mode work for the keyfob.

Any Input

Thanks
Mike

However; Does your cig lighter work? That fuse also powers the OBD port.

Fuse #29 under the hood.

Is that "unit" that you plugged in getting power ? If not, it could be as simple as a blown fuse.
On a 06, I think it will be the power outlet plug or cig. lighter fuse that also powers the OBD port. Don't have time to look up the number fuse right now.
Got to go watch the World Series !

I found factory original rear view mirror today when I plugged it in I heard the door locks make a sound and thought I might be onto something but no luck yet I disconnected the battery and will let it sit for a while before trying again.

So, you are just ignoring the fuse suggestions?

Then you got a defective unit.

Or, somebody removed the RCDLR.
