Is all the mounting hardware going to be usable?

If yes, I would think about drilling off the screw heads.

If no, keep looking, be patient.

yes the mounting brackets and the steel supports are in good condition. Im thinking of renting a small generator and taking my electric sawsall and electric drill out there to cut off the hardware or drill off the screw heads whichever works best. Even after that id have about $80 total in the deal

Never seen what the brackets look like, but can't you make angle brackets to mount the running boards? Those things are cosmetic, no one steps on them.

i know right. The factory ones have a steel platform attached to the mounting brackets that easily supports over 200lbs. Probably a liability thing

Well i cant take a generator in to the salvage yard so thats out. I see harbor freight has a cordless sawsall for $35. I wonder if it would cut the metal above the bracket mount or is it too puny?

Because you have saved a bundle on the boards maybe you should survey what you can salvage in the mounting parts and see if the rest are available thru GM on line.
Those items" if available" would be New and easy to re install. Also you would not have to uninstall the used ones.
Most Screws and Bolts could be found locally if GM wants to much for them.

I looked into Boards on an earlier HHR I owned and the parts were available then.

That adds up to over $200 in parts not counting shipping. Im giving it another try tomorrow armed with the HF sawsall and drill with drill bits and a hefty cold chisel and sledge hammer. Wish me luck 😁
