The usb port on the adapter will charge, but doesn't transmit sound. she really doesn't need another charging port if the original 12v port is available. I'm thinking that she isn't thrilled with the quality of the sound thru bluetooth. But, to save $100 she might be fine with it.
I understand this. My dad had a FM transmitter, I hated it. The sound was poor quality, and finding a frequency that did not have a radio station on it can be challenging. Road trips were annoying, as you had to keep changing frequencies as you came into another station's range.

The pic in post #25 seems to show a foreign object stuck in the jack. Maybe just take the radio out and inspect the jack. Like pulling bread out of the "broken" VCR/toaster.

FiremanGeorge: She keeps a ton of music downloaded on an SD card in her phone. So she really is just using the aux port to provide sound thru the stereo system for her phone. She's telling me that she'd prefer the aux port over the bluetooth device, but not to the tune of $100.
