To some extent this is true. Many of the old high posting members have moved on. Some that did care gave up after trying to promote site betterment and continually running into a brick wall. Only one person here holds the power and that persons concern with this site is minimal. So until the day the lights go out on this place we can either accept it or move on.
I was kinda worried, just re upped my premium membership a few weeks ago.

Just how much does it cost to start up and run a forum like this?

I'm in for the LONG haul with my Black HHR 2LT Panel, If anything happaned to it, I would replace it with another Black Panel in a Heartbeat.
(Maybe even a Black SS Panel at some point)

There is another HHR family that I know of.

But IF this place went POOF for some reason, I would Seriously look into starting up another HHR Forum for us HHR Enthusists. (Did I spell that right?)

Cost to run a site such as this really depends on what kind of load it puts on a server. I assume they are on a dedicated server, or at the very least, a VPS. Virtual Private Servers (VPS) start around 50-60/month and dedicated servers run around 100/month and up, depending on the amount of memory, bandwidth etc needed.

I am assuming this website makes a decent amount of money from the google adsense ads that appear to non-logged in users. All of the content on this website is visible to anyone that isn't logged in, other than attachments and pictures, and those users are shown adsense ads. I know for a fact that adsense ads in an automotive niche will pay from 30cents+ per click. (more like 50cents-1.00/click, i have even seen of 1.50+ clicks in automotive). If there are 100 members online, and 70 are guests, 70% of the traffic is seeing ads. I assume (again) that the 70% are clicking those ads at a rate of around 3%? If this site averages 2000 visits a day, (just a random guess!) at .30cents/click the site would average $12.40 revenue. At $1/click, $42 revenue a day. Take away of course server costs, vbulletin license costs, and time to maintain/support the website. Heck if 6% click the ads even at 30 cents per click, the site would be grossing $24.80/day.

Anyway, the point is, its expensive to run a forum that is heavy on server resources. This site would obviously be heavy on server resources, supporting 100 + users online at any one time. I think we are lucky to have the resource site here that we do.

On a side track, has anyone else noticed the ads for www.chevyhhrworld.com go to a parking page at godaddy? What a waste of advertising space!

I have been reading a lot of posts in a lot of threads that state the reasons that a member doesn't become a Premium Member. I really don't think it's necessary for anyone to justify that. Admin and Mods have never pushed that issue.

If you want to upgrade then great, if not then so be it. Just be a productive member of the forum and all will be good.

Why members even post about their personal protest of the forums lack of management or log-in problems, is just silly. We're talking $9.99. That's a typical price for a nice lunch.

I love the site and will pay premium just to post pics of our events, I have heard multiple people say that they cannot join the site, they can lurk, but cannot post. I suggested to a friend of mine that could not post for over two months, that he buy the premium membership. He did and was up that night. Todd (Uma)

I completely agree about the price thing. It's not like it's $9.99 a month... Ten bucks for the entire year is a very, very small price to pay for having such a great site like we do. $10.00? I didn't think twice about it. That's nothing... I guess I understand people's concerns, but if no one supports the site, then it very well could go away. Running a website definitely isn't free. IMO, this is a very nice, well-developed, easy-to-use professional looking website compared to many out there. If it wasn't for this site, I wouldn't know a lot of the information about the HHR that I do now. I have learned so much and seen so many nice other HHRs here because of this site. I love this site, I'm addicted! I would've been very bummed if the site had gone away. Very glad it's still here!

That's fine, as long as this down-time wasn't about money. I personally enjoy the site and look forward to visiting every day. If it isn't around, I'll be sad . But I would certainly like to know the facts and if it is about revenue, tell us so we can help.
