Talking Shnog goes Boom

Hi all,

Those of you who saw Shnog on the "other forum", know that he had a bit of bump already, courtesy of some Clif Designs luvin'... I also said during that build that the prefabricated enclosure was only temporary, until I secured some more samoleans to finish up. It sounded great, but I'm not a big fan of prefab boxes in my load bay, so...

Yesterday, Shnog had about 2,500 watts to play with, mostly going to my Clif Designs components, front and rear. Well, I've added 2,000 more, and the juicy bits to play with the power. Critically, two Optima Yellow Tops are paralleled in the stock location, feeding Shnog a steady diet of amperage.

Also, I replaced the prefab with a custom 'glassed enclosure, and a forward-facing rack holds my four amps. I chose to leave the amps exposed, vice hiding them under the parcel shelf. Of course, they will be flush mounted with the rack, something I need to finish up tomorrow. I'll post completed pics when they're available.

Three 1,000 Watt sub amps, 1,500 Watt 4-channel. 5 Farad cap.

The wee 'lil beasties. 20 hours of break-in, how I dread thee...

A taste of the enclosure, sans subs.

We're much further along than the pics portray, I'll post the finished pics (hopefully) tomorrow! Thanks for reading!

Nice bro...It looks like I'll be requesting some of your expertise when I'm ready to start my setup...

BTW...Do you know of an enclosure that will fit in the stock location for a 10" sub? Or can I put another 8" on the opposit side of the factory one?

My advice would be to leave the stock location alone, if you can help it. Aesthetically, fitting a new sub into the factory enclosure is nice, but there isn't nearly enough volume in that enclosure for a good aftermarket sub. As far as utilizing that space with an aftermarket enclosure, none are available that I know of, though that doesn't mean you can't fab one. I haven't really given it much thought, but I'll make it a point to do some measurements tomorrow. (Shnog's at my shop, else I'd go measure now, lol)

If you're looking for some real low end, though, your best bet is an enclosure in the cargo area. A single 10" or 12" powered enclosure wouldn't take up too much room, and it'll satisfy most peoples needs for low-end, especially if you're mixing it with factory mids and highs.

I would really like to keep my stock cargo room since I actually use it...So I'm willing to pay for a custom/fabricated enclosure that will fit a 10" in the stock location.

I plan on using Infinity reference speakers all the way around and their 6 channel amp that I plan on putting below the removable cargo floor. If finding someone to fabricate an enclosure for the stock location becomes difficult, my second option is to place the cargo floor to the raised position and then place everything in that lower level.

Is this making sense?

It definately makes sense! By using that amp, you're saving a lot of space, and gaining effeciancy at the same time. I'm curious to know what the measurements are back there myself, to see if perhaps a new shallow-mount sub, in combination with a custom enclosure, would fit the bill. I don't think that you should have to resort to putting the parcel shelf on the top rungs, if anything, the cargo bin area can always be used to house an enclosure.

Panasonics' CQ-VD7003U DVD flipout. Nice piece, with great clarity. It's paired up with a Clif Designs EQ/sound processor, which I wanted because I switch music genres all the time.

Of course, (this part's for Mike ), it's no Pioneer, but (also for Mike ) it humbly strives for the zenith of perfection that is, (Mike? ), in a word, Pioneer.
