Sub Box

I'm looking to upgrade my system to stage 3 or 4 pioneer speakers and would like to add a sub to the existing spot of where the factory sub sits. Has anyone built a box to fit in that spot and have dimensions or pictures of there build? Just trying to get an idea of how to start.

Thanks! There are a lot of good ideas there but I'm really looking for a box to put behind the panel in the back were the factor sub is so this way it doesn't take up any space in my trunk and also so I don't have to get rid of my spare tire if I did it in the floor.

You would have to strip the interior and either install the miniscule factory plastic piece or make a custom fibreglass enclosure moulded in its place.

There was one poster in that thread that did do what you and I are wanting to do.

I will be doing this for three 8" polk MM dvc subs and if I get luck, I might be able to massage the Massive Audio MX-5 amp in there with them. I have already had the factory box out to add dynamat and polyfill and I saw A LOT of extra room back there. I will be making it out of fiberglass and making a cutout in the interior panel that will be bigger then the factory subs grill and making my own removable grill to allow you to view the subs. By using fiberglass to build it I can make the box contour to the shape of the metal body panels behind the interior panel. The factory box itself wastes an 1" both behind it and infront of it. Then there is a bunch of room above it before you touch the upper interior panel along with more room below the box. Then down where the factory amp is there is a big pocket that can be utilized for part of the box as well.

I will not be starting the box until after the new year as I am collecting the items now and have to build two fiberglass boxes for my ION first then on to this car. I have two of my 3 subs being delivered tonight and one of the 10's for the ION. I may start doing the box for the HHR at the same time I am building the ones for the ION but it will still be after the new year.
